Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Conventions of student magazines have to have features such as articles about music and technology. The front cover has to be bright and eye catching to the reader.  It also has to include pictures of what the magazine entails. this helps it to be a enjoyable read to the student. In the contents page, there has to be a list of page numbers and next to them, whatever there is on that particular page. There also has to be pictures of what the contents includes. I have included all these features, apart from the bright colours, in my magazine.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In my magazine, I have represented college students (16-18) and the name of my magazine 'New Era' means that students have a new chance to make themsleves known not to all be druggies and layabouts. However, the pictures I have used shows that students have lots of fun instead of working.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I would sell my magazines to colleges only because most of the content applies to 16-18 year olds such as first cars and first insurance. For this purpose it would only appeal to college students.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my magazine would be students both male and female because the content applies mainly to them.

How did you attract /adress your audience?

To attract my target audience, I made my magazine black with white checked stripes. I also had large writing on the front cover so that the reader could be drawn in because there is minimal information on the cover. I also used two or three pictures so as not to crowd the front cover.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

For this product, I used a camera, Microsoft Publisher and blogger.  I have used a camera and publisher before but I have never used blogger before but very easy to get the hang of.

Name of my Magazine

I have decided to call my magazine 'New Era' because I was listening to a song called 'Dawning of a New Era' by The Specials.

New Era means to me that it will have new content and will be original.

Textual Analysis

First Car

The masthead of the magazine is in big sans-serif but it is also the biggest text on the page making it stand out. This appearance makes the magazine seem more aimed at people getting their first car at 17 or other ages.

An image of the cast from E4's 'The Inbetweeners' is on the front and in your face so you can't miss it. What it's trying to do is make the students to realize they have real life interviews from England's most famous T.V. students. Underneath the main titles and picture there is a short newsreel type of pictures and information to what the magazine actually includes.

The overall design for this Magazine is very informal with askew pictures, big fonts and not much information on the front. This is meant for over 16 that want a first car and they need to have information about insurance and Tax.
