Ready Steady GO! Evaluation.

Evaluation Questions

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Conventions of music magazines have to have features such as articles about bands, instruments and sometimes interviews. The front cover has to be bright and eye catching to the reader.  It also has to include pictures of what the magazine entails. This helps it to be an enjoyable read to whoever decides to read it. In the contents page, there has to be a list of page numbers and next to them, whatever there is on that particular page. There also has to be pictures of what the contents includes. I have included all these features in my magazine.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In my magazine, I have represented a retro band called ‘All Mod Cons’ and the name of my magazine Ready Steady GO! Is a tribute to the 60’s show called Ready Steady GO! This magazine represents old subcultures such as Mods, Skinheads and Teddy Boys. The front cover of the magazine features a Union Jack to show the patriotic side of British subcultures.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think that all shops would publish my magazine because its content is equal to any other music magazine such as Q and Mojo.

How did you attract /address your audience?

To attract my target audience, I made my magazine front cover colourful with a big Union Jack and  colourful large writing on the front cover so that the reader could be drawn in because there is minimal information on the cover. I also used one photo of the main band being interviewed so as not to crowd the front cover.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

For this product, I used a camera, Microsoft Publisher, GIMP and blogger.  I have used a camera and publisher before but I have never used blogger or GIMP before but very easy to get the hang of with the right instructions.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at my preliminary task, I believe that this magazine has various improvements. This has had a bigger effort put into it because of the time window we had. I have learnt how to use GIMP and edit photo’s through that program. Because of this, it has enabled me to make my magazine look a little more professional.  I feel I have learnt a lot since my preliminary task.
